Spring in Winter
A little holiday treat for you
Dear Reader,
I am decorating for the holidays and hecticly buzzing around the studio in a florid manner. As I felt my soul in a winter all summer, it is only appropriate that my inner cycle approaches a spring just as the trees strip down to their most nude forms. My holiday decoration style is, therefore “Spring for Yule” themed, and the gardens I have been tending over the last year are blooming in the form of the following projects, announcements, and bounty to share during this festive and generous season!
You can now access a catalogue I have made of 50 of my works priced under 500. These range from miniature drawings in resin on a charm starting at €50 to small oil on canvas works priced at €500, with many drawings, watercolors, collages, and etchings from my archive in the in-between. There are plenty of great gift options and if you order in the next week it should arrive before Christmas. Whether for yourself or a loved one, the gift of art is both an investment and a beautiful object in one.
It’s important for me to share with you that in the last year, I transitioned from having a side job to working full time on my own work. This has been a leap of faith, but it was the right time - an organic and natural shift. I am incredibly blessed and grateful that, so far, I have been able to support myself from my creative practice. I am investing my full time into work that is in line with my artistic integrity and continue to removed all distractions from that! This is in a large part thanks to the continued investment of both seasoned collectors and new collectors, as well as a number of small collaborations and creative projects, amidst growing interest in the work I am developing. These stocks are going up and you are my stock holders!
When you buy work from me or from any artist, you not only enable us to focus our time and energy into creating more beauty and sharing this with the world, you are also investing in an object that will go up in value over time, if you believe in that creative’s vision. Thank you all so much for every bit of encouragement and support, kind words, thoughtful replies, attention, and investments.
Rooigem - Solo Exhibition - Opening Dec 6th
at Wavelength Space, Chattanooga, TN
Can’t believe I am announcing a solo show in my very own hometown! This is a little love note of an exhibition, written from my current home and sent to the place I was born in. These works, mostly made over the last year, are close to my heart and have been a fundamental part of my healing process. There will be a new video work screening in the gallery to go along with the drawings and paintings. I am very thankful to Raquel Mullins of Wavelength space for offering me this opportunity, for mounting this show and for her trust and belief in my process and work.
Exhibition Overview
Rooigem explores themes of belonging, metamorphosis, and creative practice as a form of searching. Rooted in the natural cycles of solitude and seasons, the works in this show reflect an intimate connection to place and the transformative power of paying attention. Inspired by her time in Rooigem, a magical domain in Belgium, Abigail Tulis invites viewers into a meditative reflection on creativity, heartbreak, and the solace found in nature.
Artist’s Statement
"Painting is, for me, a form of magic, exorcism, and manifestation."
The works in Rooigem emerged during a singular phase of my life, spent in a place I am blessed to call home. Rooigem is not a destination you find—it is a place that finds you. This body of work reflects my journey through solitude, heartbreak, and healing, surrounded by swans, trees, and flowers that became my companions.
Each day, I painted to soothe a grieving heart. Nature, in her feminine splendor, nurtured my soul. I meditated upon the dew suspended on feathers floating on the water’s surface, or sparkling webs spun in the quiet corners of my studio. Floating on the water in my little boat, I paid attention—to the world outside, to my inner landscape, and to the cycles of life and loss.
Through these paintings, I hope to share a sense of this stillness. Slow down. Breathe. See how the world looks anew when you stop to pay attention.
This exhibition will also be available digitally via Artsy, so keep an eye open for my next newsletter with the show link and accompanying Zine!
